Rising prices – important questions
The editor,
The statement of the Maharashtra Regional Committee of the party on rising prices, published on the CGPI website raises important questions.
The acute commodification of food in India in the post 1947 era is continuing to play itself out, as one of the cornerstones of the disastrous policies of the government. That a basic need for sustaining human life is a tool in the hands of the biggest bourgeoisie for maximum profits is something that is intolerable for the rest of the population. The latter faces perpetual famine while the former fattens itself continuously through its chokehold on all spheres of the economy. Secondly, the notion that government has a duty is something deeply ingrained in the Indian consciousness, emanating from the earliest days of the urban revolution that took place millennia ago, which is essentially missing in European statecraft, at least in practice. This important contradiction must become a springboard for communists to put forward their agenda and vision for the future and present a concrete agenda. Finally, the statement captures the essence that it is only a worker-peasant alliance, armed with its own theory, that is the harbinger of a future for the people of India. I look forward to continued elaboration on these themes in the work and writings of the party.
Sincerely
S. Nair
