More than a thousand words

Dear Editor

Apropos the call given by the Central Committee of the CGPI entitled “Unite against the anti worker offensive of the Manmohan Singh government! An attack on one is an attack on all!”, published on the party web site, I feel that the figure printed giving the Degree of Exploitation in Factory Sector has captured more than a thousand words. It shows explicitly and graphically the scale of loot and plunder of the surplus stolen from the working people in this sector by the bourgeoisie. Suffice it to say that if a figure were to be shown of  the wealth accrued by some of India’s wealthiest families and corporate elite during the same period, it would show the precise correlation between the two.

The call explains how the bourgeoisie is planning to expand its operations in the coming years, by carrying out an all round attack on the hard won rights of the workers. By slashing benefits and increasing working hours, it seeks ever increasing rates of profit. The call points out that the working class is now beginning to awaken to these dangers.

Valuable lessons need to be drawn from those of the early part of this decade, where the CPI(M) spearheaded compromise and collusion with the hated Congress party under the pretext of keeping the BJP out of power. Such capitulation to bourgeois pressure only intensifies the crisis and exploitation. This realization needs to be emphasized and re-emphasized, as forgetting these lessons will only lead to a repetition of these errors. The working class must prepare during the present period under the leadership of the communists, to take matters into its own hands. I thank the CC of the party for its courageous and uncompromising stand on the matter.

Sincerely,
A.Narayan
Bangalore
