Passing away of Comrade Jayawant Chavan

We regret to announce the passing away of Comrade Jayawant Chavan on April 28, a life long fighter for the rights of the working class, and a friend of our Party.

Born in 1927, Comrade Jayawant emerged, in the course of his active political life, as one of the leaders of the Lal Nishaan Party (Leninist). His political work began at a young age in 1952. He fought for the rights of organised workers such as those of Kamani and Mukund, as well as those of unorganized workers in the press, hospital, umbrella-making, box-making, engineering and hotel sectors. From 1997 onwards he was the president of Sarva Shramik Sanghatana.

Comrade Jayawant was loved and respected across party lines. Though ailing and incapacitated for the last few years, he resolutely used to attend to his duties till late in the night, inspiring the younger generation of communists. He will be missed by all his comrades and by all those fighting for the rights of the working class.
