Unite for peace in South Asia

Members and supporters of the Communist Ghadar Party of India, together with activists of several other organisations raised their voice against the warmongering forces that are today threatening to once again embroil India and Pakistan in a war.

Under the banner of “Unite for peace in South Asia”, hundreds of workers, youth, intellectuals and women marched together from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar in the heart of New Delhi on January 12, 2009. The paticipating organisations marched with their respective banners and these included Socialist Unity Centre of India, Lok Raj Sangathan, Delhi Shramik Sangathan, Nirman Mazdoor Panchayat Sangam, Hind Naujawan Ekta Sabha, Jamat e Islami Hind, Purogami Mahila Sangathan, Students Islamic Organisation of India, People’s Front, Manipuri Students Association of Delhi, Sanjha Manch, UNI employees union and others.

During the march, the activists raised slogans against the Indo US strategic alliance and the US imperialist intervention in the region as well as against the attempts of the UPA government to provoke war between India and Pakistan. “Down with US imperialist interference in South Asia!”, “Who benefits from war? Big capitalists, not people!”, “Down with the attacks on our rights in the name of anti terrorism!”, “Food, shelter, livelihood – not war!”, “Unite for peace in South Asia!” – slogans such as these rang out through the streets in central Delhi, as the demonstration made its way towards Jantar Mantar. Many of the demonstrators held aloft placards bearing these and other slogans against imperialism and war.

At Jantar Mantar a public rally was held, where representatives of the participating organisations addressed the gathering. A statement of the central committee of the Communist Ghadar Party of India, released on the occasion, entitled “Fight for peace in South Asia! Expel US imperialism from this region!”, was read out.

Comrade Prakash Rao, spokesperson of the Communist Ghadar Party of India, denounced the attempts by the ruling circles to incite war between India and Pakistan using the Mumbai terrorist attacks and exposed the real aims of US imperialism and various other imperialist powers, i.e. to establish and expand their spheres of influence in this region. He pointed out that it is against the interests of all the peoples of this region to get embroiled in the imperialist intrigues in the region and cautioned against the terrible fate that has befallen the peoples of those countries whose rulers chose to play the US game. He called for a powerful, united struggle to throw out US imperialism from this region.

The rally was also addressed by comrade Tyagi of SUCI, comrade Naresh Gupta of People’s Front, Rafiq of Jamat e Islami Hind, Subhash of Delhi Shramik Sangathan, as well as representatives of Lok Raj Sangathan, Hind Naujawan Ekta Sabha, Purogami Mahila Sangathan, Manipuri Students Association of Delhi (MSAD) and Sanjha Manch. Unity of the people of India and all the peoples of our subcontinent to expel US imperialism from this region — this was the sentiment echoed by speakers from all the participating organisations.

Members of Delhi Shramik Sangathan and Hind Naujawan Ekta Sabha sang songs expressing our determination to carry on the struggle to the end.
