People in South Delhi organise against price rise

A number of mass organisations in South Delhi organised agitations and protest actions against the price rise in the country and in Delhi. Uniting under the joint banner of Mehengai Virodhi Sanyukta Sangharsh Samiti they organized a massive demonstration in Govindpuri Gurudwara, Sabji Mandi (vegetable market) areas. Thousands of workers, small shopkeepers, factory owners, and businessmen, street vendors and other working people participated in the demonstration.

Lok Raj Sangathan, Bihar Vikaas Manch, Jan Samanata Party, Delhi Leather Karigar Sangathan, CPI-ML-New Democracy and AITUC and many other organizations have been jointly raising their voices against the steep increase in prices of essential commodities and increase in the bus fare in DTC buses in Delhi.

People participating in the demonstrations were raising slogans "Down with the anti-labour policy of Central and State Government!", "Down with Delhi Government!", " Down with the New Economic Policy!", "Long live Unity of Workers, small shop-keepers and businessmen!" and so on.

A presidium consisting of representatives of all participating organisation coordinated the proceedings.

Address the gathering, the general secretary of Bihar Vikas Manch, Rajeev Ranjan said that the present price rise is a result of the activities of big capitalists and foreign companies. He said that majority of people are hardly able to feed their families with prices rising rapidly.

Delhi Secretary of Lok Raj Sangathan Comrade Bijju Nayak congratulated the workers, small shopkeepers, businessmen, street vendors on behalf of Lok Raj Sangathan, for participating in this demonstration against the anti-people policies of the government.

He said that "as per Indian Philosophy it is the duty of the Raja to ensure Sukh and Suraksha of his subject. And if the Raja does not fulfill his duty that the subjects have the right to eliminate such a raja and set up samitis to attend to affairs of the state".  He pointed out that the capitalist system runs on the basis of plunder of the people. Under this system, the duty of the state is to ensure maximum profits for the capitalists and not to secure sukh-suraksha for the people. Under the present system the role of the bourgeoisie's political parties is to act as the manager of the capitalist class. It is futile to believe that these parties of the capitalists will ever work in favour of people against the interest of capitalists. Hence we will have to take the affairs of the state in our own hands through our lok raj samitis.

Representative of CPI-ML-New Democracy Com. Animesh Das said that the capitalists are selling essential commodities at exorbitant prices in line with the economic policy of the government. While the daily earning of workers have been hit due by economic recession rising prices is breaking their backs.

Com. Atik of Delhi Leather Karigar Sangathan elaborated on the process of futures trading and said that this is responsible for rising prices. He demanded that futures trading be banned. He alerted that if the government does not arrest the price rise immediately then Delhi will come to a standstill.

Com. Rajput of AITUC said that both Congress and BJP are responsible for the price rise.

Representative from Jan Samanata Party appealed to all communists to unite and fight against price rise.

In conclusion, a resolution to continue struggle against price rise was passed unanimously.
