The struggle of the people of Lalgarh is a just struggle
Dear Editor,
I read with interest the statement entitled “Condemn the brutal suppression of people’s resistance in Lalgarh”. First of all this is the only paper which has clearly spoken the truth and explained in no uncertain terms the source of the problem and as to who is responsible.
The truth of how the capitalist state unleashes untold repression against the people when they raise their voice and protest in the interest of their land and natural resources. The truth of how the state can go to any lengths under the guise of wiping out “insurgency” to protect the interests of the big companies and their profits.
Yes, it is true, what happened in Lalgarh will be repeated time and again and be perhaps ten times worse in the neighbouring states of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Orissa. Fore instance, in the rich mineral state of Jharkhand, every other day big capitalist companies such as Jindals, Vedanta, etc have been allowed to take over land at throw away prices for exploiting the rich mineral resources. These lands belong to the adivasis and indigenous peoples. After taking away what belongs to the people, each of these big companies have set up organizations under their corporate social responsibility programme to give sop social relief to the people they oust in the first place and rob of their livelihood and resources.
I completely agree that any self respecting individual who stands for defending the interest of the people, the communist and progressive forces must oppose such grabbing of land that belongs to the people and must completely oppose the brutal role that the state plays in crushing the struggle of the people. It is nothing but state terrorism!
Yours truly,
Sunita, Delhi
