No card to the B.P.L people for one and a half years
On 28th July, 2009, under the banner of Lok Raj Sangathan, those living B.P.L (below poverty line) in Delhi sat in protest in front of the I.T.O office of the Food distribution Commission which has not given them their cards for the last one and half years.
Many men and women took part in the protest action.
The protestors shouted slogans like “food security is our birthright!”, and asked the Congress Party “Will we get our cards when your Party that has ruled for many years is in government?” and “Down with the Food Distribution Commission”. “Down with the Delhi Government”, etc.
Speaking at the protest, the Delhi representative of Lok Raj Sangathan, Birju Nayak said that one and a half years have passed since the forms for those living below the poverty lines had been filled, but only 10% cards have been given out. People in need of cards have been running around in circles to get cards, however, all they get is mistreatment by the officials in charge. According to the policy of the Food Distribution council, a new card should be made available within a month of filling the form. The Council should be held accountable for the delay being caused in getting these cards.
Santosh Kumar, of the Hind Naujavan Ekta Sabha pointed out that the government is very cleverly aiming to being the Public System (P.D.S) to an end. The government first came out with colourful cards for the B.P.L, A.P.L and others in the name of food security. Our demand is that every Indian should be provided food items at a reasonable price.
