Lalgarh Statement
Sir,
I am writing to express my gratitude to the CC of the CGPI for its principled and clear stand on the events that have taken place in Lalgarh in West Bengal.
The statement clearly exposes the state terror unleashed by the state apparatus and security forces. The state has legitimized its brutality and crushing of the struggle for dignity and human rights and collective hereditary rights of the people under the pretext of restoring order and the rule of law.
The Lalgarh developments have further exposed the bogey of 'development' in the hands of the rulers of the country. Such development has come to mean granting of the rights to exploit the vast natural resources of the country by big industrial conglomerates and their right to maximize their profits through various tax sops, SEZ like regimes, proximity of ports and highways, while simultaneously depriving the legitimate residents of such lands by driving them out of their homes in the name of this or that law.
The resistance struggle of the people to this attack is portrayed by the Indian state as being naxlism or left-extremism in order to justify the unleashing of brute force against the people. The Prime Minister and the Home Minister have repeatedly spoken of left-extremism as being the greatest threat to the country.
This is to make the world stand on its head. It is the government and the interests they represent that indeed are the greatest threat to the people of the country, the lives of whose citizens they consider worthless and expendable.
I thank the CC for calling on all communists at this time to unite and face the bourgeois offensive and oppose all state terror.
