The statement of the CC of the CGPI dated June 27, 2009 entitled "Congress led government’s agenda is to serve capitalist greed and imperialist aims!'' is a must in the reading list for all those interested in the emancipation of the people of India.

This statement brings out many points of crucial importance:  of these one of the most significant being that the 'middle path' that is being promoted by the Congress is one of deception and devastation for the people of the land. Such a path has been historically shown to be that of enrichment for the richest sections and immiseration for the majority.

Another significant point is that the present policy of massive Government spending in the public works funded by massive public debt is aimed at bailing out the bourgeoisie in the present crisis at the cost of the people.

What the statement shows is that a thorough going Marxist-Leninist analysis of the prevailing situation in India clears the air to expose what is the line of march communists must adopt in the given conditions.

The results of the 2009 general elections have no doubt brought cheer to the hearts of the biggest capitalists in the land.  The stability that is promised by the Congress led government is one that provides the conditions for the bourgeoisie to move without hindrance  towards its goal of turning itself into a world class imperialist power.

The,toiling masses must prepare themselves to bear the consequences of this imperialist drive. Their resistance to the worsening conditions of life is going to be met with draconian laws, and the baton and the bullet under the pretexts of combating terrorism here, and combating left-wing extremism there.

Such being the case, communists must unite the masses and show that an alternative exists.  This alternative has already been articulated in the statement and is characterized by its profound analytical depth.  Let us carry forth our work to meet the goal of establishing the socialist alternative.
