Manifesto of the CGPI released in public meeting

CGPI Manifesto releasedThe manifesto of the Communist Ghadar Party of India for the 15th Lok Sabha Elections was released at a well attended public meeting of activists and well wishers of the Party held in New Delhi on April 12, 2009.

The meeting attracted not only workers, women and youth from the constituency but also from other parts of the city, activists from other political parties, working class activists from Punjab and Rajasthan, as well as, various individual supporters of the party who wished to learn more about the manifesto and plan of work of the party.

The meeting was chaired by Comrade Sucharita. Releasing the Manifesto in Hindi, Punjabi and English languages, Comrade Sucharita announced, amidst vigorous applause, that three working class activists of the Party — Comrade Birju Nayak, Comrade Suryakant Shinge, and Comrade T. Wilson are contesting the Lok Sabha Elections as people's candidates from the South Delhi, South Mumbai and Kanyakumari Parliamentary Constituencies respectively. Comrade Birju Nayak is a working class and youth activist in Delhi Region who is known amongst the people as a resolute fighter for their cause. Comrade Suryakant is the leader of Ladakku Garment Workers Union and himself a garment worker. Comrade Wilson is the leader of plantation and head load workers in his area. She called upon Comrade Birju Nayak to come to the stage.

Comrade Prakash Rao, spokesperson of the CGPI elaborated on salient features of the manifesto released by the Party. He elaborated on the class struggle raging, with the bourgeoisie fighting to defend the capitalist imperialist system, including its preferred method of rule - multi party representative democracy, while the working class is fighting to rally the peasantry and all the exploited and oppressed around the alternative of socialism, and of worker peasant democracy as the form through which workers and peasants can exercise political power. He explained how both the ballot and the bullet are part of the arsenal of capitalist rule. He pointed out that communists use every occasion to expose the political and economic system of capitalism, and this is what our party is doing during these elections as well. He explained the role of the party in building the political unity of working class and toiling masses over the past thirty years, and in the struggle to restore the unity of communist vanguard.

Comrade Prakash pointed out that we communists, we activists of the working class and peasantry must think big and act with great confidence. We are of the working class, we are of the peasantry, we represent the productive classes of Indian society, the vast majority of our people, who are yearning for a new course for India. The bourgeoisie and its parties may appear strong today, but in fact they are extremely weak and rotting from inside. They do not have the support of the working masses, because day in and day out they work against the interests of the working masses. We call upon all communists all activists of the working class to take up the cause of the class, build the political front against capitalism and the bourgeoisie and prepare to establish worker-peasant rule in our country. We advance boldly with confidence in the people, in the party and the correctness of our line, confident of our ultimate triumph. Worker-peasant rule will be established on Indian soil. Capitalism will be overthrown, Socialism will triumph.

Following Prakash Rao's presentation, the meeting was addressed by Comrade Birju Nayak as well as by Comrade Ajay Mittal of the All India Forward Bloc, who requested support for his candidature from the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat.

There followed a vigorous discussion, in which several participants raised a number of questions and also gave valuable suggestions on developing the campaign for the alternative. Comrade Prakash Rao dealt with these questions and elaborated on the issues raised.
