Killing of Dr. Kishan and his two colleagues in Manipur

Sir,

The killing of Dr. Kishan, SDO of Kasom Khullen Sub Division and his two colleagues cannot be seen in isolation from the systematic state terror perpetrated by Indian state against the people of Manipur.

Dr Kishan and five of his colleagues were kidnapped in the full view of the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul district and some of his staff from near the office of the DC. Just like other capitalist imperialist states in the world, the Indian State tries to eliminate those who oppose it by using any means. According to news reports, the NSCN (IM), after carrying out internal investigations, has announced that some of their cadres killed the three officials and they further alleged that DC of Ukhrul himself was one of the party involved in the conspiracy of the killing. Thus it will not be wrong to say that a responsible agent of the Indian state was steering the killing conspiracy.

In the wake of the murders, all sections of the people, old and young, came out on the streets as part of a mass upsurge to demand punishment to the culprits. General strikes, protest-rallies, dharnas, public meetings and black-badge protests were organised in every nook and corner of Manipur, asking the state to find out the truth behind the killing. Particularly, the people of Kasom Khullen, a Naga village, where Dr. Kishan was serving as SDO, regretted that they were left orphaned after Dr. Kishan had been killed and they passionately protested against the killing. In the course of the agitations, the effigies of the Chief Minister and DC, Ukhrul were burnt by the people in protest aginst state terrorism as well as instigation of state terrorism.

Meanwhile, the rulers did not remain silent. As usual, they imposed public curfew to suppress and disperse people’s movement against the state. Rubber bullets, tear-gas and lathis were the only response to the demand of the people asking for justice. Nonetheless the violence unleashed by the state could not stop the united voice of the people. Breaking curfew restrictions, legions of women-folk organised torch-rallies at night.

While the security forces were fully alert to control the people’s agitation in every nook and corner of Manipur, three wage workers from Bihar were shot dead by so-called “unknown” militants. Such types of sectarian killings are not a new thing in India. People can understand easily that such acts of violence are usually organised by those forces who are trying to divert people’s attention and to confuse make them. The motive of killing innocent individuals is only to serve the reactionary state and not the people. Communalism and terrorism are the most favorite weapons of the state to keep intact the rule of the bourgeoisie and drown the people in blood.

Unless and until the oppressed and exploited people snatch political power from the hands of the bourgeoisie, smashing the present political system, people can not progress and live in peace free from violence because state terrorism and communalism are inherent in this very system itself.

Ranjit, Imphal,
Manipur
