Demonstration to commemorate Martyrs’ Day in Delhi

A militant demonstration was organised in the evening of March 23, 2009, to commemorate Martyrs’ Day under the leadership of the Hind Naujawan Ekta Sabha. Comrades of the Communist Ghadar Party of India, the Delhi General Mazdoor Front and other revolutionary workers also took part in this program.

Starting from Sanjay Colony, the biggest workers colony of the Okhla Industrial Area  Phase 2, the inspiring procession marched through the lanes of Harkesh Nagar as well.

A banner with the pictures of the great martyrs  Bhagat Singh, Suhdev and Rajguru was held aloft by the youth at the head of the demonstration. This was followed by banners proclaiming “The Call of the Martyrs is Immortal!!” and placards with slogans such as “Inquilab Zindabad!”, “Long Live the Call of th Martyrs!”, “Down with US Imperialism!”, “Down with the Privatisation of Education!”, “Down with State Terror!”, “Fight for Peace in south Asia!”. “People, Not Parties Have the Right to Select Candidates for Election!”, “Infuse Young Workers with Workers’ Politics!” and “Organise to Rule and Change Society!” etc.

The youth boldly shouted slogans “Inquilab Zindabad!” and “Samrajyavad Murdabad!” (Down with Imperialism!) Wherever it passed through, people came out to meet the youth and applaud their message. The youth stopped in the colonies to explain their call to the working people. As thousands of workers came out of the factories at the end of their days’ work in the Industrial Area, they warmly greeted the youthful participants of the demonstration.

At 6 o’clock in the evening, the demonstration reached Prem Nagar Chowk, where it was converted to a rally. Hundreds of workers joined this event. The statement of the Hind Naujawan Ekta Sabha, “Long Live the Call of the Martyrs!” was first read out at this rally. Thereafter, a comrade of the Communist Ghadar Party of India addressed the rally. He said that it is necessary for the people of India to organise and struggle to establish the rule of the workers and peasants. The youth must draw inspiration from the message of Bhagat Singh and his comrades and take a lead in this.

The secretary of the Lok Raj Sangathan's Delhi unit, Birju Nayak spoke on the occasion to say that the conditions of today make it clear that the only way forward to save ourselves from the economic and political crisis is for people to come to power and establish ‘Lok Raj’, the rule of the people. Learning from the deeds of the martyrs, the working class will have to become the leader. People will have to establish Lok Raj Samities (committees) in their respective living areas and take political power in their hands.

Addressing the rally, Comrade Jagdish of the Delhi General Mazdoor Front dwelt upon the lives and work of the martyrs. The rally ended in high spirits with the shouting of revolutionary slogans.
