Children from Permude, Tenka Yekkaru, Kuthethur, and Delanthabettu villages staged a protest against the Mangalore SEZ at the head quarters of the district administration on April 19, 2008.

They demanded that the the Dakshina Kannada District Administration de-notify the2,035 acre of land proposed to be acquired by Karnataka Industrial AreasDevelopment Board for the second phase of the project. They said that they did not want to leave their villages and lose sight of the hillocks, fields and water bodies. Stating that nature had been bountiful to them, the children said they would be deprived of these natural environs if they were forced to move out. They urged the Deputy Commissioner not to displace families in these areas.

The protest was organized by the children’s wing of the Students Islamic Organisation of India.
