May Day celebrated in Madanpur Khadar Delhi
Under the leadership of the Hind Naujawan Ekta Sabha (HNES) a lively program was organised to commemorate May Day at 8 am on 1st May, 2008. People of all ages - from small children to young boys and girls and adults – took part in it. Leaders, activists and supporters of the Communist Ghadar Party of India were actively involved in the function. The Chief Minister of the HNES Delhi, Anand, was the master of ceremonies.
Hoisting the red flag, Comrade Prakash Rao, spokesman of the CGPI paid homage to the martyrs of Chicago. Children and youth of the area then rendered a revolutionary song ‘Dekho Rang Badal Raha Hai Aasman Ka!’ (Behold – the colour of the sky is changing!).
Santosh Kumar, senior member of the HNES, pointed out that the condition of workers and peasants today in India is the same as that of the workers of Chicago in 1886. Workers protesting against the inhuman conditions then were martyred. As a result of their struggle, not only they, but workers throughout the world won the right to an 8 – hour working day. Today the workers, peasants, women and youth of our country are being forced to work for 12 to 16 hours and the capitalists are reaping maximum profits form their labour. The people of this resettlement colony must raise their voice against this. The capitalists want the working class to forget about May Day – but we must commemorate it every year!
He said that May Day and its history inspire the working class to always hold high the banner of the struggle against the capitalists – so that the victory will finally be ours! He pointed out the necessity of taking the message of the importance of May Day to every working youth. He ended by giving a call to the workers, to rise above merely fighting for minimum wages and instead prepare to take up the struggle for wresting state power. Local residents, Om Prakash and Virpal, also spoke on the occasion.
