Lok Raj Samiti – Sanjay Colony – Marches Ahead
March forward and fight for your rights!
In the workers’ settlement situated in South Delhi’s industrial area, the Lok Raj Samiti of Sanjay Colony organized a political-cultural evening on the 5th of January, 2008. Women, children and youth took part in the evening in huge numbers. The programme began at seven in the evening and went on into the late hours of the night.
The president of the Samiti, Lokesh Kumar began the programme by wishing everyone for the New Year.

The secretary, Amarjeet Kumar presented a summary report on the work done by the Lok Raj Samiti. He stated that the biggest obstacle in the fight for the basic rights of the residents were the political parties, the local representatives and government institutions. Not deterred by these obstacles the Samiti moves forward with strength.
He went on to say that along with the struggle for rights the Lok Raj Samiti works to establish people’s power. I’m very happy that other settlements and colonies have been inspired by Sanjay Colony and have now established their own Lok Raj Samitis. The residents, members and working members of Sanjay Colony have played a main role in spreading this ‘new light’ of change.
A presentation of the work of the Lok Raj Samiti was also put on display. It showed a glimpse of the technical aspects of the land, water, maintenance, electricity and Sanjay Colony as a whole. The questioning eyes of the youth were engaged in the presentation searching for the answers they seek.
Laloo Ram presented a song titled ‘Ganga Meri ma ka nam, pita ka nam himalay’. Towards the end of the programme the residents were urged to struggle and fight for their rights so as to ensure a better future for their children.
A wave of enthusiasm and hope swept across the audience when the children of the area presented a Bhangra. They were motivated by the applause they received from the crowd after their performance.
Bijju Nayak, the President of the Delhi chapter of Lok Raj Sangathan congratulated the Lok Raj Samiti and said that it is not easy to unite people to fight for their rights but the Lok Raj Samiti had once again risen to the challenge and showed that nothing is impossible.
Political parties encourage people to come to their programmes and clap for them and limit interaction to votes. They want to ensure that people are only able to either request or beg for their rights. They don’t want the people to rise and fight for rights.
We have to discard this type of disgusting theory that the people of this country are only born to labour hard, be fleeced and uprooted from their homes and thrown elsewhere! Contrary to this we should show them that we are the true owners of this country. We should have people’s rule in this country not the rule of the various political parties.
He urged the residents that no matter where they live or work, they should work towards establishing a Sangharsh Samiti in that area. This would become a means of establishing people’s power in the future.
Ashok Kumar Gupta sang the song ‘Man mein hai vishvas’ with great fervor and was appreciated by one and all.
The chief minister of Hind Naujavan Ekta Sabha, Anand said that the children are the future of the country, but making sure that the future is beautiful is everyone’s duty.
Many working members of the Samiti spoke on the occasion. Among them were – Shri Ram Janam, Ramakthayar, Nageshwar Rai and Renu Nayak.
The secretary of the Jan Pratinidhi Manch, Sucharita and the Secretary of the Lok Raj Samiti, Amarjeet distributed prizes and certificates to the young participants of the art, essay writing, song and dance competition organized by Hind Naujavan Ekta Sabha and Lok Raj Samiti of Sanjay Colony. On the occasion Ms. Sucharita said that it is encouraging to have such programmes and it is truly worthy of praise.
After this a beautiful Bhangra was presented on the song ‘Pagdi Sambhal Jatta’ by the children who were encouraged with applause by the workers.
A play by the Rangbhoomi Natya Samooh was also presented. The play showed how political parties are only interested in fighting with one another for vote banks and not concerned with the problems of the people. In this way, no solution is achieved.
Bhojpuri folk singer Brijesh Kumar captured the hearts of the audience with his beautiful and soulful songs.
This programme which went on till 1:30 in the morning was a celebration for Sanjay Colony. To organize a political-cultural evening under the banner of the Lok Raj Samiti of the area can be called the beginning of good politics.
