Anti-imperialist convention

Sir,

Having read the report on the Jabalpur Convention of March 11, 2008 that calls for united struggle against imperialism, I am pleased to know that the spokesperson of our party, Com. Prakash Rao was one of those invited to address the convention.

The peoples of the world have won notable victories, indeed as those of Vietnam who kicked the Americans out in 1973. Earlier the valiant people of Vietnam had kicked out the equally hated French imperialists. I was pleased to learn that at the convention there were delegates who paid homage to these momentous achievements of the peoples of the world.

The ground reality in India is one where there is a deep hatred for the oppression of the peoples of the world by the US led Anglo-American imperialist camp. Our people have a long history of valiant struggles against the kind of world order that is being sought to be imposed on the peoples of the world. The question is why then is the equally hated Indian ruling circle now trying to cosy up to this camp against the will of the people? The answer lies in the fact that they would like India itself to be a player at the high table of such imperial powers and have its own sphere of influence. It is a foregone conclusion that the present path that is being pursued will lead to abject disaster both for the people of India as well as that of the region, and no one who has collaborated with the US or any other imperial power has come out unscathed. As that supreme pragmatism of the imperial camp, John F. Kennedy once noted, in politics there are no friends, only allies. In this regard, therefore, the people of India must play a decisive role in setting the course for India to be a peaceable country and defeat the aims of its own ruling circles. The people of India must take an uncompromising stand against imperialism, no matter whose imperialism it is. Conventions such as the one in Jabalpur are an important stepping stone towards building a mass movement against US led Anglo-American and every other kind of imperialism.

Sincerely,
G. Rajan,
Chennai
