Is this Parliament or a Market?

A protest demonstration was organized on 27 July 2008 at India Gate against the rampant horse-trading during the no-confidence vote in the Indian Parliament on the issue of Indo-US nuclear deal. Activists and supporters of various organizations included Parivartan, Kabir, Bhagat Singh Brigade, and Jalbiradari participated in the protest action.

Addressing the demonstrator’s senior advocate Prashan Bhushan said that it is very clear that the various members of parliament were offered money to vote in favor of the government or to remain absent. He pointed that earlier also many MPs have been suspended from the parliament for receiving money for asking questions in the parliament.

Various speakers said that what we witnessed in the parliament on 22 July clearly shows that the parliament has been converted into a marketplace where the votes can be traded.

The protestors demanded that this entire issue of horse-trading to defeat or save the government must be investigated and the guilty must be punished. They also demanded that the video recording of the sting operation carried out by IBN -7 must be shown to the people. The corrupt MPs, ministers, Prime Minister and officers must be tried and punished for the crime.
