A memorable revolutionary beginning to the New Year

The Year 2007 could not have asked for a more spirited and youthful ushering in than what was witnessed at the New Year’s Eve party hosted by the Communist Ghadar Party of India. Working women, men and their families, and youth from working class areas of Delhi were treated to a fabulous show of dance and skits that kept them tapping their feet to the rhythm and applauding the dramatic political satire and comedy. The hall was decorated beautifully with balloons and festoons. "Let us learn the lessons of history to usher in the Rule of Workers and Peasants" proclaimed the backdrop on the stage. The ambience was full of colour and hope for the New Year.

The group of working class youth - both girls and boys, staged a show that held the audience in thrall. Through songs, dances, drama and poetry, and speeches, they militantly voiced their aspirations for a new society, ruled by workers and peasants; they argued for the overthrow of this exploitative system, and pledged their commitment to fighting shoulder to shoulder with all the oppressed, led by the Communist Ghadar Party of India. They vowed to walk the path of Bhagat Singh and other revolutionary martyrs.

The General Secretary of the CGPI, comrade Lal Singh was welcomed with sustained applause and invited to address the gathering. Wishing the gathering a warm New Year on behalf of the Central Committee of the Party, Com Lal Singh said that the energy and positive force that was reflected in the gathering gave lie to the bourgeoisie’s claims that the working class cannot rule. The capitalists and their ideologues claim that it is only the capitalist class that can rule. They blame the working people for the crisis in Indian society; however it is capitalism that is responsible for the crisis and the problems faced by the people. It is their rule that is wreaking havoc. Rejecting their claims as an outright lie, Comrade Lal Singh said that he could say with full confidence that it is the working class, in alliance with the peasantry, which can rule this country in the best interests of people; and this can only be done by ousting the capitalists.

He condemned the arrogance of US imperialism in occupying Iraq and organizing the hanging of its leader. It is a travesty of justice that an occupying force can get away with genocide of a people on their soil. Today, US imperialism poses the biggest threat to peace and security, and the Indian bourgeoisie is making agreements with such an evil state. The Indian people are totally against this criminal power and any contract with it.

Comrade Lal Singh talked about the successful organisation of the Communist School in various cities and the high level of political discussion and participation of the Party comrades and supporters, especially the youth. He pointed out that the Party has been working to raise the consciousness of the people that they are the masters of this land, and not the capitalists and imperialists. He urged the youth to fight with this conviction that we should not allow these criminals to decide our destiny but take the reins of our destiny in our own hands.

The hall reverberated with the slogan Inquilab Zindabad, Hum hai iske malik, hum hai Hindustan, mazdoor kisan, aurat aur jawan and other slogans hailing the Communist Ghadar Party of India.

This rousing speech was followed by the most entertaining and talented dances and drama, one following the other. The youth, both girls and boys, presented various folk dances with skillfully controlled gusto and with the audience clapping to the beat.

Dinner was organised at the appropriate time, and all were served a very nice meal by the youth – in the best traditions of Indian hospitality.

Besides the dramas and the skits, the youthful organizers of the evening, spoke eloquently on various issues ranging from politics to culture. They spoke of the importance of keeping alive our folk traditions despite the onslaught of imperialist culture, despite their attempts to control our mind through language and the arts. “We must be first in everything – in academics, in sports, in the arts and in revolutionary work” extolled a young teacher.

A burst of a balloon and warm handshakes and embraces marked the moment of the birth of the New Year. Soon after, the evening drew to a close with a scintillating bhangra by yet another team of skilled performers. They presented an encore and were joined by many more youth, comrades young and old.

Red salute to the revolutionary youth of our Party for taking the lead in organizing such a memorable and militant evening to ring in the New Year.
