Demonstration against state repression in Chhattisgarh

Civil Liberties activists, mass organizations and democratic individuals are organizing a 24 hour vigil on August 14, at Raipur, Chhattisgarh. This action is being organised to protest against the severe repression unleashed by the state on the people there as well as on the political and social organizations and their activists who are working in defence of the people’s interests.

It may be recalled that Dr. Binayak Sen, General Secretary, Chhattisgarh PUCL had been arrested along with other activists, three months ago, under the draconian Chhattisgarh Vishesh Jan Suraksha Adhiniyam 2005. He has not yet been granted bail.

The protest action on August 14 demands the immediate repeal of the Chhattisgarh Vishesh Jan Suraksha Adhiniyam 2005 and the release of Dr. Binayak Sen and others incarcerated under this fascist law, the withdrawal of all false cases against other social activists and consultation with all groups of people affected by the proposed projects of the big monopoly companies, the SEZs and SIZs in the state.
