Condemn state terrorism unleashed by Tamil Nadu government

The DMK led government of Tamil Nadu has unleashed a fresh reign of terror in the name of counter-insurgency. In the recent period, the Tamil Nadu police have reportedly arrested several people, including college students, youth and communist activists, in Murugamalai near Perrikulam of Teni Taluk of Tamil Nadu. The police have also started conducting searches in the districts there, under the pretext of capturing some of the other activists who may have escaped. Many battalions of police, Q-branch and Special Task Forces have been deployed to various districts. During the course of their search operations, the police have arrested political activists in various other places. They are harassing the local population and students in the name of “gathering information”. Notorious Vijayakumar, ADGP of Tamil Nadu who, a few years back caught Veerapan and few others and killed them in custody, has been put in charge of this “hunt for Naxalites”.

Such fascist attacks on the rights and liberties of the people have become a routine feature in Tamil Nadu. Communists, worker, student, youth, women or peasant activists and all those fighting for the rights of the working and oppressed people are regularly labeled as “terrorists” and “extremists” by the police and government, attacked, arrested and tortured without trial, and often brutally murdered. This has been the case whether it be the Jayalalitha led AIADMK which was in power or the Karunanidhi led DMK in power as at present.

On the other hand, politicians of the ruling political parties, who are responsible for criminally killing innocent people and organizing social conflicts to further their narrow sectarian aims, big monopoly capitalists who are responsible for devastation of life, livelihood and natural environment on a massive scale, state security forces who rape and kill innocent people with impunity, are provided security and protection by the government and the courts.

In Tamil Nadu, as in other parts of the country, the state itself is the biggest perpetrator of terrorism, openly indulging in terrorising activities in the name of defending people from “terrorists”, as well as organizing terrorist acts covertly. State terrorism remains a preferred weapon in the hands of the ruling big bourgeoisie, to crush the struggles of the workers, peasants, youth, women and all sections of the oppressed people against their intense exploitation and oppression.

People's Voice vehemently denounces the criminal terrorist attacks by the state on all those fighting in defence of the interests of the working and oppressed, and calls upon the people to unitedly resist state terrorism in all its forms.
