Indo-US Strategic alliance

The Editor,
PV.
Sir,

I thank you for carrying an extremely important, clear and thought provoking article entitled "The US-India strategic alliance is an imperialist alliance,'' in the July 1-15, 2006 issue of PV.This article is a reflection of the advanced theoretical preparation of the party, and is an example of the tradition of Marxist-Leninist analysis at its best. I must begin with congratulating you on the clarity of the presentation, which lays bare the causes of this alliance, describes its present contours and maps outs it future trajectory.

Of the points that have been elucidated, one of the most note-worthy is the fact that India has been pointed out be a capitalist-imperialist country, much in the same category as the USA, and as an ascendant power in collaboration and contention with the USA. Since India is a highly militarized country and more importantly with a nuclear arsenal, it poses a threat to the countries in the region, and those to the east of India due to its new found 'Look East' policy. The peoples of the region need to view these developments with the greatest alarm. Furthermore, the nuclear arsenal is likely to be consolidated and enhanced under the aegis of the Indo-US nuclear deal that is being worked out. The US gamble is that in providing concessions to India and in engaging India as an ascendant imperialist power, it would be supporting a rival to China and is hoping to achieve domination of Asia, an aim that has been on its cards since the end of the Second World War and subsequently of the Cold War.

In the meantime, the Indian state continues to fascise itself, arming itself with vast powers to participate in the so-called 'war on terror', whips up anti-Muslim chauvinism at every possible pretext, outsources its failures by blaming Pakistan for every ill. Furthermore, the common citizen in the country is continually weighed down further by steep price rises, growing insecurity due to a variety of causes, faces unemployment and casualization of labour, destruction of public services in the name of liberalization, has no avenues for an affordable and comprehensive education of children. Given this scenario, it is with the greatest concern that the citizenry must face these developments. The cost of militarization, the human cost of a possible conflagration and a large-scale war, which India has never witnessed in the past are beyond one's wildest imagination. Thus, your call to Indian communists and the working class in this context to assess the situation and to oppose the strategic partnership is a far reaching one. All the members of the revolutionary camp must take cognizance of this call and unite around the plan of defeating the US-India strategic alliance.

Sincerely,
A. Narayan,Bangalore
