Women condemn the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
Are the armed forces of the state our protectors or our killers? This was the question on everyone's lips on 29th October at a programme organized by the Purogami Mahila Sangathan. A film called "Manipur-in the shadow of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act" was screened, which portrayed the Manipuri people, specially women and youth, living each day under the brutality of the Armed Forces. Around 50 women and youth gathered for the programme in South Delhi's Sanjay Colony. When the brutalities against people of Manipur were shown, women watching the film couldn't hold back their tears. After the film, the women from PMS talked about the on-going struggle by the Manipuri people to repeal the AFSPA.
The bourgeoisie wants people to believe that the army of the state works to protect the people. But in our country in the state of Manipur that very same army is brutally killing and suppressing the people. The police brutality, specifically on women, girls and youth in the working areas of Delhi was also discussed. The women expressed their support for the women and fighting youth of Manipur. One of the women raised the slogan "attack on one, is an attack on all of us" and condemned 'state terrorism' through the army in Manipur.
